We are sharing our recent interview with London based music artist Gavi Omar.
Twist Online : First of all please introduce yourself to our readers.
Gavi Omar : I am Gavi Omar an artist based in London , I am what a person may call a “hip hop head ” grew up on rap songs that were older than I was , I gravitated towards street underground rap , at 6 I was already break dancing, doing the moon walk at birthday shows , such a shy kid yet so fun and energetic, I love hip hop , every aspect of it.
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
Gavi Omar : I was inspired by my environment , everyone around at that time was into rap music , It was the lifestyle , seeing the reflection of our neighborhood on TV was exciting , all my friends were older than I , they were already knowledgeable about who the dopest mc’s were I would just listen to them debate and argue all the time , would then go home and listen to the records , come back next time and tell them the hardest bars I had heard and who I thought was the greatest , soon or later I was writing down their lyrics by just playing rap music over and over again on my Walkman , then I realise yo I can rhyme effortlessly, I can rhyme with any word without even writing just of the top of my head , the older guys loved it , that really inspired me to rap , they embraced it they made me freestyle almost everyday.
Twist Online : Tell us about your upcoming project rebirth?
Gavi Omar : I was formally known as Kevin millions use to rap about basic things most rappers of this generation do, drugs, money , etc , till I got baptized , I mean even before then I was already bored of rapping about the same thing that’s destroying our environment , drugs , but it’s easier and for whatever reason much comfortable to rap about such things as people easily gravitates to such topics and information. Because that’s all they mostly hear or see , by the grace of God I was snatched away from that lifestyle , I got “saved” in all cliche form , but i really got saved by God , started to have epiphanies , my surroundings began to change , went through a metamorphosis, hence the name “Rebirth” I am a new guy with old experience that help fuel and drive this new energy. Rebirth is designed to heal the soul , to touch on real life issues , we all in a warfare , whether mentally , spiritually we all in a battle , like it or not long as you breathing. Like the late Rapper B.i.g said ” there’s a war going on nobody safe from ”
Twist Online : What’s the inspiration behind rebirth and what kind of response you are expecting from the release?
Gavi Omar : Rebirth is designed to inspire real people , people that feel , people that aren’t too superficial, people that see beyond what their eyes see , spiritual people I would say , it’s aimed to raise awareness of spiritual warfare , people that going through mental illness, sleepless nights , cold sweats , heartbroken individuals , yet has a very melodic and good vibes to it, because after all, Life is good.
Twist Online : What attracts you more, performing on stage or working in studios?
Gavi Omar : I enjoy both but i prefer working in the studio , I enjoy the creative part of it , the excitement you get from writing a dope verse and coming up with great metaphors make you feel like “damn I got one ”
Twist Online : What’s your favorite music genre?
Gavi Omar : My favourite genre of music would be hip hop but I enjoy neo soul , I love old Motown classic music , I listen to old records all the time , I listen to Bill Withers , Al Green , Angie Stone , Anthony Hamilton , Jahiem , always has been an old soul
Twist Online : Have you set some goals to achieve?
Gavi Omar :
My goal is to raise awareness of what life really is about , vanity it’s what driving our generation , even some men acting like women now , Everything is changing for the worse , almost the chauffeur of the world is steering it to hell , I mean who don’t like to live good , but I also know you can have everything the world proclaim to be the “life” and be miserable if your spirit and your mind aren’t right. I believe in God. And I pray everybody would see God for who he really is. For after all nobody lives forever , rich or poor , smart or dumb , when it’s all set and done we all will cross roads , so while we here , let’s live , let’s do right. Peace and love.
