Interview with Alternative Indie Rock Band Guest Actors

Interviews

We recently interviewed Tel Aviv, Israel based alternative indie rock band Guest Actors. They are working on their LP and released third single “By Demand” recently. So our interview will focus on upcoming LP and recent release as well.

Twist Online: First of all tell us about the start of your professional career?
Guest Actors : Having met as students at Rimon music school, we started rehearsing in January 2015, working with a different guitarist on a self-published EP titled ‘Thoughts About The Ground’, which was recorded in November the same year. We began performing in Tel Aviv in March 2016, and after a change in lead guitarist we went back to the studio to work on the upcoming full-length debut LP.
Who or what inspired to launch the band Guest Actors?
The band formed by front man Avi Ilani, mainly inspired by Chris Martin, Arcade Fire and Leonard Cohen.

Twist Online: Our readers would like to know more about the band members and their roles in the band?
Guest Actors : We are: drummer Shaked Yaakov, lead guitarist Matan Wexler, Bassist Yoni Talias, and lead vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter Avi Ilani.

Twist Online: Tell us about your recent release ‘By Demand’?
Guest Actors : We didn’t think of By Demand as a single at first, but we changed our mind after the song was recorded.
We see the upcoming LP as a whole and each song as a part of a journey. Some of the ideas in By Demand’s lyrics also appear in other places on the album, such as the limits of the language and the basic existential emotion, but this song specifically is also an intimate love song, delivering a message of hope.

Twist Online: What kind of response you have received from the release?
Guest Actors : We were delighted to read some wonderful reviews. Stereo Stickman wrote that ‘The intimacy & openness is stunning’, and SleepingBagStudios described the song as ‘a truly immaculate and unforgettable moment in time that is an extraordinary highlight of this year we’re in’. It’s a great feeling to hear this kind of responses after recording an album.

Twist Online: What attracts you more, performing on stage or working in studios?
Guest Actors : Performing on stage, although working in the studio is also an incredible experience.

Twist Online: What’s your favorite music genre?
Guest Actors : We like a lot of genres, from classical music to early jazz and folk music, but our favorite genre is Alternative rock.

Twist Online: Have you set some target to achieve as a music band?
Guest Actors : We wish to keep recording and performing as much as we can and keep getting better all the time.

Twist Online: Are you currently working on any other project?
Guest Actors : We’re already working on a second LP and we hope to start recording it during 2018.

Have your say
