sharing with our readers here, our recent interview with a skillful sound designer and talented producer, Leo Salom.
Twist Online : Please introduce yourself to our readers.
Leo Salom : Hello, my name is Leonardo and I’m from Italy, Lucca but I actually live in Los Angeles. I’m a music producer and sound designer.
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
Leo Salom : There are really tons of artists who have inspired me in my life. When I played drums I was a bit ‘more or better indie-rocker. Now, after many years, I appreciate deep house, tropical and future house very much. My favorite artists at the moment are Bakermat, Hermitude, Flume, Kygo, Sam Feldt, Robin Schulz, Klingande, Tez Cadey, and Hayden James.
Twist Online : You travel a lot, it seems you get inspiration for music from traveling?
Leo Salom : What I really like about traveling is adapting myself and my music to different cultures. I usually record voices, especially when they are in a different language with a strange tone. I often spend a lot of time on a single sound, I used to be a perfectionist. But in the end, I completely twist my track, I just have fun.
Twist Online : How much your degrees in music improved your skills?
Leo Salom : Well… you know, many music producers have become famous without having ever opened a book. I call that luck. But I really believe in what I did and I feel proud of what I studied. I’m ready to work within the movie field as well. I like to not define what I do. That’s why you have to be open to do everything.
Twist Online : Tell us about your recent work?
Leo Salom : My latest production… I’m sorry, I can’t tell you anything about it. I can only say that has been finished yesterday! It’s literally brand new, made in Toronto, with a mad genius I recently met and a Canadian friend of mine. I really had a nice time with them, and the snow “forced” us to remain in the studio for long hours. I can’t wait to publish it! You’ll be able to find it online at LeoSalom.com soon!
Twist Online : What do you enjoy more performing live or working in studios?
Leo Salom : I don’t think I can have a precise Leo Salom to this Twist Online. I do what I have to do. I usually have a great sense of duty, but I prefer to play live, but you often have to adapt yourself to this world and be ready for anything. I admit that even though it’s tiring sometimes, I spend hours in front of my laptop but in the end, I feel satisfied and happy.
Twist Online : Are you influenced by any particular music genre?
Leo Salom : Everything. How can I restrict something so big? Well… I’m inspired by everything, really. I feel very close to tropical and future house at the moment.
Twist Online : Are you working on any new project?
Leo Salom : I have lots of “incomplete” sketches without voices, I’m looking for some new voices that can represent me in some way. It’s good that I can seek singers very easily and that’s so cool, it’s now become really fast to get in touch with someone. In any case, yes I am… but I can’t tell you anything yet.
