Today on our Hot Seat we have a very talented and inspiring music artist YOVANNI with us. He has recently released a very melodious and heart touching track Breathe. Let’s have a chat with him.
Twist Online : First of all please introduce yourself to our readers.
YOVANNI : Hello Modern Citizens this is YOVANNI. I am excited to share a bit of my journey in life with you. I hope you can take time to enjoy my music and videos and join me in my musical world of life, love and freedom of expression.
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
YOVANNI : I grew up in the 80’s when music was at it’s best. I became a student of artists like Madonna who was always so cutting edge with her artistic music videos and George Michael who I had the biggest crush on. I would always get lost in his vocals and beautifully constructed lyrics. Both of these artists and many in the 80’s and 90’s were a huge part of my development as a musician. I became a student of pop culture and artistic expression.
Twist Online : Tell us about your recent release “Breathe”?
YOVANNI : Breathe is a very personal song for me because throughout the last couple of years I dealt with allot of situations that took my breath away. I had to witness a friend trying to commit suicide, I suffered the loss of my little dog and had to deal with an accident that prevented me from walking for months. It felt at times that it would not stop raining and the clouds kept getting darker. After taking time to reflect and realizing that the sun was still shining behind the clouds of life, I started to write and sing again about the journey of healing that we are all seeking.
Twist Online : What kind of response you have received from the release?
YOVANNI : I have received great response to my song and video for Breathe. People have commented how they can relate to the message about not giving into depression and hopelessness. There is a friend who recently lost his mom and had to travel overseas for work. He expressed how lonely and hurt he felt but after hearing my song, he felt strong and hopeful that he would survive this part of his life. I am proud of that because all I want to do with my songs is inspire and give people joy with my music.
Twist Online : What’s your favorite music genre?
YOVANNI : My favorite music genre will always be pop rock from the from the 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s because that was when there was substance in lyrics and there was a story to be told. I am so discourage by the music of today because it is basically the same fake rhythm and 3 chords repeated for the whole song. The lyrics are just one phrase that makes no sense and repeats throughout the song. I like pop from before because there was a melody and you could close your eyes and see a story of the song without watching the video.
Twist Online : What’s the best part of being a music artist?
YOVANNI : The best part of being a music artist for me is being able to create a world through sound and visuals. I love to paint a story with my voice and then like a painter with a canvas, bring it to life in film. But nothing compares to being on stage in front of an audience and singing your soul to a crowd. For me being on a stage is like standing next to God.
Twist Online : Have you set some goals to achieve?
YOVANNI : My goals are to continue to make more songs and get them out into the universe. I also want to get back on stage and showcase my new material in front of a live audience. The main goal I have is to help myself by inspiring others to never give up. In the end I think it is our duty to accomplish every good vision that God puts in us. It does not matter how fat, skinny, young or old you are… Just make sure you do everything possible to honor your blueprint in life. Set a goal and work towards making it breathe.
Twist Online : Are you working on any new project?
YOVANNI : I am currently in the studio working on finishing a song with a full band and a string orchestra. The music is majestic and will require allot of effort from many people who also share my vision for a better world.
