A Conversation With Russell Lee About his Music & Life

When talking with Russell Lee, it becomes clear that he is both a passionate and multi-talented musician, not to mention a truly down to earth person as well. We had the chance recently to interview this talented singer/songwriter for our publication, and we are excited to share it with our reader’s.

Twist Online : Please introduce yourself to our readers.
Russell Lee : My name is Russell Lee.  I am a singer/songwriter/musician who has released 2 original CD’s and one Christmas CD.  Our band has been performing for the past two years promoting the CD’s

Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
Russell Lee : I have always loved music and sang a lot.  When I started to learn to play the guitar, I got hooked and wanted to learn how to play well and learn the songs that I would listen to.  As I became more comfortable I started to write songs and thought it would be neat to record my own music.

Twist Online : Tell us about your latest Album ““Songs of Christmas”?
Russell Lee :  I had done two original CD’s and had always wanted to do a Christmas CD but kept putting it off.  I finally made a deadline for myself, learned a whole of Christmas songs.  I used the ones that fit my style of singing and arrangements.   I like the feel of how we do “Little Drummer Boy” and “God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen” and “Do You Hear What I Hear”.

Twist Online : What kind of response  has it received so far?
Russell Lee :  We have got a lot of great responses so far.  We have been told that it is easy to listen to and has a nice feel to it. One interesting note is that there is a little known song that we did called Little Toy Trains (written by Roger Miller) in which we put our style on it.  We have have received quite a few nice comments about this song.

Twist Online : You have also released the music video of one of your track “Picture” from the Album “What Do I Do”. What’s the main inspiration behind this?
Russell Lee :  I thought this song would make a good video as it has a neat story line about how people can differently  interpret a picture of someone, .  especially the line in the song that says.  “I see a picture in front of me, trying to figure out what I see, the look in their eyes tells me there’s so much more” We are very happy of how well the video and the story line turned out.

Twist Online : What do you enjoy more performing on stage or working in studios?
Russell Lee :  They both have their “fun” however, I really like performing on stage and interact with the crowd when I can. It is very satisfying to see the crowd enjoying the music and singing along.

Twist Online : Are you influenced by any particular music genre?
Russell Lee :  I like all kinds of music.  I think I have been influenced by a variety of performers, such as Blue Rodeo, Harry Chapin, Bob Seger, For the genre, I would have to say country/folk/rock, if that makes sense…

Twist Online : Are you working on any new projects?

Russell Lee : I have some new songs that I have been working on, however, my main focus is to promote the latest CD “What do I Do” as well as the Christmas CD “Songs Of Christmas

Twist Online : Are you active on social media? What’s the best way to follow you online?
Russell Lee :  Yes I am.  I do have an Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/russell.lee.music/) , Twitter (https://twitter.com/Russell_Lee_345) , Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/Russelllee345) and my Website  www.russelllee.ca
