HipHop Artist Emory Forbes talks about his recent release

Today on our Hot Seat we have Emory Forbes with us. Let’s have a chat with him.

Twist Online : What skills have you learned that will help you in your music career?
Emory Forbes : I learned to be prepared for good and bad and keep it moving. I put my love into everything I do but understand that the world is opinionated and it may not be a great outlook from every project. Ive learned to have tough skin and keep pushing and never give up.

Twist Online : What made you decide to pursue a career in entertainment?
Emory Forbes : I’ve always enjoyed Hip Hop since I was young. Eminem, Nas, Ludacris Jay-Z were all big influences. Around ten years old my brother asked me to rap and I’ve been rapping ever since. In 2009, I was living in Santa Barbara it was around that time that I started recording and truly pursuing a career.

Twist Online : Tell us about your releases “OHIO TA”.
Emory Forbes : It’s a hip hop record has a classic vibe. It displays my wittiness and It’s mainly about hard work. I just really wanted to display my lyricism and I think OHIO TA embodies true Hip Hop.

Twist Online : What kind of response you have received.
Emory Forbes : If you are an old school Hip Hop fan I think you will love it. It’s not a traditional single with a catchy hook its just straight bars but its so good you have to respect it. I wanted to create something similar to Exhibit C for J Electronica, where people hear it and it really captivates.

Twist Online : What kind of rapper would you classify yourself as?
Emory Forbes : I am a lyricist by trade, but I am able to adapt to various other styles. I think I have the skills to be a legend when it comes to rap, but I am also an amazing artist as well and able to appeal to the masses.

Twist Online : Do you attend sessions? What makes a good session?
Emory Forbes : I come prepared for most of my studio sessions with the material the beats I don’t like to waste time. The biggest variable is the Engineer. If the engineer is dope and can see my vision then chances are the song will come out how I planned or even better with the right input, If I’m not in sync with the engineer the record may not reach its potential.

Twist Online : What has been the best performance of your career so far?
Emory Forbes : My best performance is a rap battle vs a rapper named G Gray. It was short notice because both of our original opponents had cancelled last minute, so I had to rewrite and learn a new rap and perform it. Still, it might have been the best round I’ve written so far.

Twist Online : How do you cope with being away from home for long periods?
Emory Forbes : I’m used to it when I was in the military I had been overseas for some time and I lived in California when I’m originally from Baltimore so that’s on the other side of the states. I stay focused and I never forget my goal, as long as I know why I continue this profession and continue to take strides to better myself I don’t mind it.
