“Kool Kidd Dre” talks about his latest release “The Kool Tape 2”
Twist Online : First Tell us a little about the starting of your music career?
Kool Kidd Dre : I’ve known since I was 10 years old that I wanted to be a rapper after watching my uncle tour and pursue his career as a rapper. After years of writing raps and making my own beats, I recorded my first track when I was 16. Throughout high school I performed at every talent show, rapped at every football game cypher, and put out 2 mixtapes with my friend B Wallace. I graduated from the institute of audio research in 2014 to enhance my producing and engineering skills, since then I’ve been constantly performing and was able to perform at Webster Hall, South X Southwest 2016, and even SOB’s. I’ve put out 3 mixtapes in that time “The Framework”, “The Kool Tape”, and most recently “The Kool Tape 2”
Twist Online : What do you enjoy more singing or songwriting ?
Kool Kidd Dre : They both actually feed each other. When I’m creating and putting words together that properly mirror my thoughts I can’t wait to perform and share it. When I’m on stage rapping and people are connecting I can’t wait to go and create more.
Twist Online : Tell us more about your recent release “The Kool Tape 2” ?
Kool Kidd Dre : The Kool Tape series is a collection of Kool stories that I share to not only show different perspectives of common situations, but for people to find themselves or someone they know in these stories so I can build a connection with listeners. “The Kool Tape 2” is a continuation of that notion with a heavy improvement sonically and with production compared to previous projects.
Twist Online : How is the response of your fans to your latest releases?
Kool Kidd Dre : I’ve been told it’s a “baby classic”. People have raved about the story telling and production. Someone even told me the music is great but they want deeper content. All in all I’m proud of this project and I’m open to all criticism.
Twist Online : Are you inspired of someone in music industry?
Kool Kidd Dre : My 2 biggest influences are Kanye West and Drake. Ye has a great balance of confidence and vulnerability in his music and I don’t think I’ve connected with an artist content the way I connect with Drake. They both really motivate me to make better music so I can be that for someone else.
Twist Online : What is your favorite music genre?
Kool Kidd Dre : I love hip hop but the song writer in me has a secret love for main stream pop music lol they’ve mastered simple melodies with surprisingly impactful lyrics.
Twist Online : What’s your next target you wanna achieve?
Kool Kidd Dre :Right now I’m very focused on building on organic fan base so that I can start a tour in select markets. I a striving for main stream success but I’d like the path of building that type of love on my own.
Twist Online : Any new project you are working on? When it will be released?
Kool Kidd Dre : “The Kool Tape 2” is the big focus now, but I am working on a 3 song project that will only be available for subscribers on the Planet Kool Kidd email list. The date hasn’t been confirmed.
